Sailmaking
With a long history of experience in the design and manufacture of sails for cruising and racing yachts, dinghies, and windsurfers, SD Sails provides a complete sailmaking service for all types of sailor. This includes everything from strict one-design racing sails to robustly built training sails, using all cloth types from modern laminates to traditional canvas for individuals and clubs alike. With our policy of build to order, every aspect of the sail can be tailor-made to suit your requirements.
Cover work
SD Sails also manufacturers a wide variety of marine cover and canvas work, including sail covers, stack packs, boat covers, spray hoods, cockpit enclosures, biminis, dodgers, and upholstery. Good quality cover work not only keeps your boat looking good, it also helps to protect many vulnerable areas from weather and wear. We pride ourselves on providing the best possible service and workmanship from measuring up to fitting, consulting with the customer to understand their needs, whilst utilising the best materials and hardware available.
Repair and service work
As any good sailor will know, maintaining your sails and covers on a regular basis is essential for both maximum lifespan, performance and safety. At SD Sails, we undertake all manner of repair, renewal and alteration work, including simple patch repairs, complete panel replacements, cut downs and reshaping, eyelets and press rings, fixings and hardware, bolt ropes and edge tapes, UV strips, laundering, valeting and re-proofing. Furthermore, our repair service extends right across the marine spectrum, to include windsurfing sails, power kites, covers and upholstery, as well as dinghy and yacht sails.
Cables and rigging
In addition to the bulk of our work manufacturing or repairing with fabrics, SD Sails also has a complete rigging shop in house, where we produce, alter or repair stainless steel cables to any length or diameter using crimped or swaged end terminals.
